Meet Your Teacher
Hi, I’m Kay! I’m a classically trained orchestral and wind ensemble musician with a Master’s degree in Flute Performance. Over the last decade, I have added to my classical music background by focusing heavily on improvisation. I find great joy in creating healing and peaceful music that touches the heart and soul of my listeners.
Recently, I have explored the exciting world of the Electric Flute (classical flute using sound effects). Experimenting with new sounds and techniques has brought me so much enjoyment and has broadened my teaching style. These new explorations have confirmed my belief that music should not be taught rigidly but should be flexible and fun.
I have spent years teaching through my personal Flute Tutor Studio, with a few seasons as an small college adjunct instructor sprinkled in as well. My students range from 8-year-olds to retirees. The majority of my studio is comprised of school-age students, from those who are experiencing their first flute sounds on the flute, to more advanced ones that are driven by auditions and competitions. It is an honor to say that several students though the years have won All-State placements, college scholarships, music competitions, and principal seats in various ensembles. Some have even become flute teachers and composers themselves!
As your instructor, I adapt to your musical desires and learning style, often stepping away from traditional methods. My goals are simple: to help you make music that enriches your soul and to ensure that you have fun!
I LOVE playing the flute and I LOVE welcoming new, motivated students to my studio! If you are interested in studying with the Flute Tutor Studio, click the link below and introduce yourself!
